A high-altitude plain called Deosai National Park, located in the Gilgit-Baltistan province’s Skardu Region, is also renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty and distinctive ecosystem. Due to its high elevation and large, open landscapes, Deosai National Park is sometimes also known as the “Land of Giants. One of the world’s highest plateaus, the park is located at an elevation of almost 4,000 meters above sea level. A little over 3,000 square kilometers in size, the park is distinguished for its rolling hills, beautiful lakes, and large swaths of wildflowers.

The park is only open in the summer session because it is frequently covered with snow throughout the winter, which lasts from October to April. During the summer months, the weather is moderate and pleasant, with temperatures fluctuating between 15°C and 25°C. The weather is mainly sunny and dry, with occasional rain showers.
A permission slip is required to access the Deosai National Park. The Skardu district administration’s issued permission slips are available at the park entrance gate or the Skardu Tourist Information Centre. Visitors can access and explore the park during the designated period with the permit. The cost of the permit slip varies based on how long the visit will last and what the visitor intends to do while there.

To view the wildlife and take in the natural beauty of Deosai National Park, visitors can explore the challenging terrain of the park’s trekking pathways. A variety of animals, including the Tibetan wolf, snow leopard, and Himalayan brown bear, can be found in the park. Visitors can take guided trips to see these animals in their natural habitat. Deosai National Park boasts stunning landscapes and incredible vantage points, making it a great place for photographers to capture spectacular images.

Visitors are welcome to set up a tent in the designated camping areas of the park and spend the night delighting in the serenity and stargazing. Several lovely spots in the park are also great for picnics. In this region, horseback riding is also a popular activity, and visitors can rent horses for trips. The park is an excellent place for fishermen as many fish species, including trout, call its lakes and rivers home.

Deosai National Park is a unique and breathtakingly beautiful area that offers visitors the chance to take in the natural splendor of the Himalayan region and learn about Pakistan’s rich biodiversity.
